Thú vị nhất có lẽ là chén nước mắm được pha rất vừa đầy đủ vị chua, mặn, ngọt, khi trộn đều lên mới cảm nhận được hết cái ngọt từ tôm, vị tổng hòa thú vị từ bún, rau, giá, cà rốt và dưa leo thái sợi, hay từ vị bùi thơm của lạc rang giã dập và vị cay nồng của sa tế hòa quyện trong từng miếng bún. Đun sôi một nồi nước khác với một chút muối, cho tôm vào luộc chín rồi vớt ra bát nước mát để giữ tôm được giòn. Vớt tôm ra đĩa.
Cà rốt, dưa leo bào sợi nhỏ. Bắp cải cũng thái sợi mỏng. Đậu phộng rang xát vỏ, giã dập.
Cho bún ra đĩa sâu lòng hoặc bát tô, lần lượt xếp giá đỗ, dưa chuột, cà rốt, rau bắp cải xung quanh vành đĩa. Chính giữa xếp tôm và lá rau mùi tươi cho đẹp mắt. Sau cùng mới rắc đậu phộng giã dập.
